How Can Man Be Accepted by God?
All religions are characterized by the way they teach their followers to get closer to God, either by their works, or by faith.
There are two men in the Bible who represent these two ways of presenting themselves before God: Cain and Abel. Both inherited the sinful nature of their parents. However, when it came time to appear before God, these sinners assumed very opposite attitudes, and received a different response from God. The Bible says that the difference was not in themselves, but in the offerings they presented.
Cain offered to God the fruit of the earth. This, which might seem laudable, is not, since the earth was cursed because of sin. God had sacrificed an animal to cover Adam and Eve, he had had to shed blood to cover them, but Cain found it unnecessary to offer a bloody sacrifice. However, the Bible says that "without bloodshed there is no remission" (Heb. 9:22).
Abel, for his part, brought the best of his sheep. He understood that none of his works could allow him access to God. His offering symbolized the perfect sacrifice of Christ, who took our place at the judgment on the cross. "By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain" (Heb. 11:4).
The way of Cain has many followers. They are religious people, who think they can get closer to God in their own way. Their religion is just a ritual that serves to silence their conscience or to be socially accepted.
Which of these worshipers do you identify with? Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will attain perfect peace with God.
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Rom. 10:8-9).
