LIVING WATERS
For the proclamation of the Gospel and the edification of the Body of Christ
The Purpose of the Pain
There is undoubtedly a lot of pain in the world. In various ways it hurts the lives of men, plunging them into misery. Many think that nobody knows the magnitude of their suffering, that nobody cares that they suffer.
Pain is inevitable, it is an ingredient of our earthly life, whose purpose is to make us see our precariousness and produce in us a turn towards God.
The English thinker C.S. Lewis has said: "God whispers to us in our pleasures, he speaks to us in our conscience, but he cries out to us in our pains." There is something that God has been trying to tell us for a long time, but we do not listen to it. We have suffered many pains, but rarely do we ask ourselves what God wants to tell us with them.
God has spoken to us in many ways; but, through pain, he is alerting us to the danger we run if we do not turn to him. In the world there are many voices that want to be heard. But, can we hear, among all of them, the voice of God?
God calls us to take a break in our lives to think about eternal things. We have invested a lot in the things of this life, without attending to what our soul really needs. The soul entertains itself in what does not satisfy, and strives in what perishes.
God wants to save us. Therefore, he sent his Son into the world, so that the world might be saved through him. Jesus Christ died on the cross for us, shed his blood to cleanse us of our sins and reconcile us with God. It is necessary to believe in the Son of God and receive him in the heart so that he produces a change in our lives.
God loves us in such a way that he even uses our sufferings to attract us. Dear reader, may his pain not be in vain. Hear what God is saying to you and turn to him.
"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Rom. 10:8-9).
