LIVING WATERS

Difficulties Teach
"The man born of a woman, short of days, and jaded with troubles" (Job 14:1).
Problems are something common for human beings. There is no exception at any age, or in any climate or time of year. Rich and poor alike, the educated and the ignorant, all are participants in this sad and painful legacy of the fall of man.
Waiting only for the sunshine, seeking only pleasure, what is easy and what is beautiful and flowery, is to have a completely false vision of life. Those who expect a trouble-free life are frustrated and surprised when difficulties come their way. Such people do not understand the ways of the Lord and know little of the way in which he disciplines his children.
Problems are under the control of Almighty God and are some of his most efficient agents to accomplish his purposes and to perfect his saints. God's hand is in every problem that breaks into the life of his children. It's not that he personally and arbitrarily orders every unpleasant experience. Nor that he is personally responsible for every painful and distressing fact that affects the life of his children. But no problem has been left free in this world to come into the life of a saint or a sinner without divine permission. God allows it to happen and to carry out his painful work with the hand of God in him or on him, and to fulfill his merciful plans of redemption.
All things are under divine control. Problems are not above God or beyond his control. They are not in life something independent of God. No matter what source they come from, God is wise enough and able to lay his hand on them without taking responsibility for his origin and making them act within his plans and purposes related to the highest welfare of humanity, His saints.
