LIVING WATERS

Good Plans
"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope" (Jer. 29:11).
Let us think for a moment about this wonderful statement: "God's plans are always good and always perfect for his children". Many find it hard to believe. Why is that? Part of the reason for this difficulty is that we live in times when good things are increasingly scarce. Good news, things well done, pleasant situations, hope, well-being, are increasingly scarce.
With each passing day we tend to be more and more surprised by the really good things. Lately, they even seem strange to us. Never before have we suffered so much from the lack of good things. Everything seems to get worse and worse: emotional health, peace and harmonious relationships, marital stability, security for the future... Yes, we live in times of insecurity, of scarcity, of fear of the days to come.
And, in the midst of such bad and difficult times, the word of God is heard victoriously in reference to the plans that God has for us in the future. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity, to give you a future and a hope" (Jer. 29:11, NKJV).
All the things God desires for us are perfectly good, and there is not the slightest possibility of evil in any of them. They are perfectly good and they are also perfectly holy. For this reason, we should live each day of our lives full of joy and peace. For those of us who trust in the Lord, nothing bad awaits us tomorrow. Our future is mapped out from eternity by God, and sealed with His love, infinite goodness and mercy.
