Saving Our Garden

When God appointed Adam to guard the garden, He was acknowledging the existence of an enemy from whom the garden was to be guarded. Satan prowled Adam's garden, and Adam was to defend it.

So too, today, Satan prowls the garden of the children of God, to wound them again. The wound may come -again- upon the woman, it may come upon the children or upon the goods. But be that as it may, we must be aware of this: the garden of every child of God is in Satan's sights.

Many pains are suffered by families today because of the lack of parental spiritual covering. Many family misfortunes, accidents, robberies, etc., which we attribute to natural causes, are the work of evil forces sent to destroy Christian families. And these things happen because men have neglected to exercise their authority in the care of their garden.

Child of God: Attend to your exercise as priest of your family. Satan and his henchmen plot in secret against your wife and children. You will not be able to fight him by trusting in yourself. Nothing will prevent him from hurting you, but resist him firmly through prayer. If you will only rise up every day to submit to God, and to resist the devil, then he will flee from you (James 4:7). All his stratagems will fail. If you only stand firm, you will be victorious.

Many of God's children think that God will keep them even if they ignore the enemy. However, God's wisdom has arranged things differently. He has left all his resources in the hands of his children, so that they may proceed against the enemy. "Take up the whole armor of God", Paul tells us (Eph. 6:13), and then goes on to detail what our attitude should be and what the weapons of our militia should be. "Resist him (the devil) steadfast in the faith", Peter teaches us in 1 Peter 5:9. God will not replace the father of the family in the defense of his house. God has delegated His authority over the father, and He will not withdraw it.

The disarticulation of Satan's works against our home is in the hands of every householder. Satan's attempts upon the Christian home can be neutralized if the man becomes aware of the authority God has given him and exercises it. Just as he himself is perfectly protected by his Head, who is Christ, so can his wife and children be protected if he conducts himself with the dignity of the head of his family.
