LIVING WATERS
For the proclamation of the Gospel and the edification of the Body of Christ
The First Minion
Jesus approaches Jericho. A blind man who is by the road, begging, hearing the crowd coming, asks: "What's going on? Why all the fuss?". Reluctantly, a voice answers: "It is Jesus, the Nazarene, who is coming...".
Then something happens with the blind man. The man transforms, his face lights up. He stands on his weary back, and cries: "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!".
Those who hear him are stupefied. He has said "Son of David"! They perfectly understand the tremendous invocation of the blind man, and it seems to them blasphemy. So, hastily, they silence him.
However, the blind man insists. His "blasphemy" rises in tone due to the stubbornness of his repetition. Saying that Jesus is the Son of David means nothing less than saying that Jesus is the Christ! People say of him: "It is Jesus, the Nazarene"; but the blind man says: "It is Jesus, the Son of David".
The people were blind to see the true condition of Jesus; but the blind man really saw. To the people, it was crazy, so the man was not only blind, but also crazy. Only a king, a descendant of David, can be the Son of David. But that man from Nazareth... Only the Christ is the Son of David. But that Nazarene...
The blind man, with his words, stops the march of Jesus. (Can we see why the Lord could not stop caring for him?). The King (still without a crown) sends for him to call. The blind man comes The King asks him: "What do you want me to do to you?".
The blind man says: "Lord, may I receive my sight". The King says: "Receive it, your faith has saved you". That's all. The kingdom of heaven has drawn near. The King already has a minion.
