LIVING WATERS
For the proclamation of the Gospel and the edification of the Body of Christ
Who Falls on Whom?
"Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken, but on whom it falls, it will crush him" (Luke 20:18).
Every man, whether he accepts it or not, sooner or later, will have to meet Christ. In this verse, there are two actions referring to man with Christ: one in this time and the other in the time of the end. If we do not meet Christ during this life, we will see Him at the end of it.
The Lord rarely spoke of the judgment; however, He did not shy away from the subject when it was necessary to touch upon it. What do these sayings of His mean? They mean that, in this age, those who come to Christ are broken by him, and that at the end of this age, those who do not come to Christ today will be condemned by him. The first is a work of mercy; the second will be a work of judgment.
Those who come to Christ at this time will be dealt with by him. However, the Stone will not be hard on them. Their soul will be broken, but not destroyed. They will suffer afflictions, but their pains will be softened by the caresses of the Lord. Along with being broken, they are reconstituted, that is, stripped of Adam and clothed with Christ. At the end of the brokenness, their tears will be wiped away and their hearts eternally consoled, and there will be no more memory of the present pain.
However, woe to those upon whom the Stone will fall! Even if they seek to escape, there will be no room. It will be like fleeing from before the lion and meeting a bear; it will be like a day of darkness, not of light. The feet shall not be able to run, nor the mouth to cry for help. Then they will say to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb..." (Rev. 6:16).
What a great difference there is between those who are broken today and those who will be broken tomorrow! It all depends on who falls on whom. Do we fall on Christ, or will he fall on us? The former breaks us in order to rebuild us with nobler materials, the latter crumbles us, never to see the light again. Come, let us fall on Christ today!
