Safe Above the Deadly Waters

"Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water" (Genesis 7:17-18).

During the flood, the water level on the earth gradually rose until human survival became impossible. Every soul died. It rose about seven metres above the highest mountain. But as the water level rose, becoming more dangerous and deadly, the ark where Noah was also rose and moved above it. It floated above it.

Noah moved with the ebb and flow of the destructive waters; he was always above them; and even though he could not see them, for the ark was tightly closed with no view of the outside, he knew that God was executing His judgement, but that He was delivering him and his family at the same time. He knew that God was carrying him over the deadly waters, but he was completely safe.

In the same way, no matter how high your levels of anxiety, no matter how high the stormy waters in your life may be, in God's ark... you will always be above them!

I cannot say whether Noah was afraid during those forty days, for the Bible does not say so, but knowing a little about human nature, and knowing that fear is part of it (even if only as an instinctive means of preserving the species), I would dare to say that there must have been some fear in his heart; but I am also sure of his great trust in God.

So it is normal that you too may feel some fear or concern when you are affected by tribulations and difficulties, but all that should disappear when you remember that your life, inside God's ark, will ‘float above the surface of all your problems’.
