LIVING WATERS
For the proclamation of the Gospel and the edification of the Body of Christ
Tasters from the King's Table
The first subject
Jesus is approaching Jericho. A blind man begging next to the road, as he hears the crowd coming, asks:
- What's going on? Why all this commotion?
Reluctantly, a voice answers him:
- It is Jesus of Nazareth, who is coming.
Then something happens to the blind man. The man is transformed, his face lights up. He stands up and shouts:
- Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!
Those who hear him are amazed. He said: "Son of David!". They understand perfectly well the tremendous invocation of the blind man, and to them it seems blasphemous. So they quickly make him shut up.
However, the blind man insists, and his voice rises in pitch. To say that Jesus is the Son of David means nothing less than saying that Jesus is the Christ! The people say of him: "He is Jesus of Nazareth"; but the blind man says: "He is Jesus, the Son of David".
The people were blind to see who Jesus truly was; but the blind man saw the truth. For people, it was madness, so the man appeared to be not only blind, but also mad. Only a king, a descendant of David, could be the Son of David. But this man from Nazareth ... Only the Christ is the Son of David. But this Nazarene...
The blind man stops Jesus’s procession with his words. We can see why the Lord had to stop to help him. The King (still without a crown), summons him. The blind man comes to him. King asks:
- What do you want me to do for you?
The blind man says:
- Lord, I want to receive my sight.
The King says:
- Receive it, your faith has saved you.
That is all. The kingdom of heaven has drawn near. The King already has a subject.
